Former Israeli ambassador to the United States, Michael Oren, has highlighted the urgent need for ammunition support from the U.S. amid an ongoing shortage in Israel. Oren, who served during former President Barack Obama's administration, discussed this issue on the "John Solomon Reports" podcast, emphasizing that Israel is facing significant ammunition shortages exacerbated by the conflict in Ukraine.
Oren revealed that he spent part of the summer observing military operations in northern Israel, where he noted a critical lack of 155mm tank ammunition. He stated that Israel entered the current conflict at a disadvantage due to artillery supplies being diverted to Ukraine, which has contributed to a broader shortage in the West. Oren described the situation as not currently "dire," but underscored that the limited ammunition poses a serious risk for Israeli forces.
The former ambassador expressed concern over the potential consequences of insufficient artillery, stating, “Don’t conduct an operation unless you have an artillery curtain around you.” He emphasized that the lack of artillery support could endanger soldiers and compel the use of less accurate alternatives. Oren concluded his remarks by stating he seeks a U.S. presidential candidate committed to supporting Israel's defense through the supply of necessary arms.
