Florida Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio have introduced legislation proposing a reward of up to $100 million for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Scott emphasized the need for action against what he termed the "illegitimate regime" of Maduro, stating, "The time has come for Venezuela to be liberated."
In a statement, Scott expressed frustration with the Biden administration's approach, claiming it has failed to effectively address the Maduro regime, which he says has benefited at the expense of the Venezuelan people. Maduro was recently declared the winner of Venezuela's presidential election in July; however, the U.S. recognizes Edmundo González, the opposition candidate, as the legitimate victor.
Rubio underscored the necessity of accountability for Maduro, labeling him a "corrupt schemer." The proposed reward would be funded through seized assets from Maduro and his associates, estimated to total around $450 million, rather than taxpayer dollars.
Both senators aim to enhance U.S. efforts in holding Maduro accountable for alleged crimes against the Venezuelan populace.
