The FBI has issued a warning to election offices across the U.S. after several Secretaries of State received anonymous letters containing powdered substances. On Monday, offices in Kansas, Iowa, and Oklahoma were evacuated after receiving the letters, although the substance in Oklahoma was identified as flour. Secretaries of state, attorney general offices, and state election offices in Nebraska, Tennessee, and Wyoming were also targeted.
The FBI is actively investigating the source and motive behind the letters, but no injuries or hazardous materials have been reported so far. The agency emphasized that public safety remains its top priority. This incident marks the second time within a year that election officials have been targeted with similar threats, with previous incidents occurring in California, Georgia, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington last November.
The FBI, in cooperation with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, is working to prevent the delivery of additional threatening letters and has advised election offices to remain cautious when handling mail.
