The FBI has initiated an investigation on the Maersk Saltoro, a ship managed by the same company involved in the March 26 collision with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore. The Maersk Saltoro is owned by Grace Ocean Private Ltd. and managed by Synergy Marine Group. The Justice Department is currently suing both companies for over $100 million, alleging reckless actions related to the bridge incident.
Federal agents from the FBI, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Criminal Investigation Division, and the Coast Guard Investigative Services boarded the Maersk Saltoro at the Port of Baltimore on Saturday morning to conduct court-authorized law enforcement activity. Details regarding the investigation remain limited.
The March bridge collapse resulted in six fatalities and significant financial damage to Maryland, with initial cost estimates indicating that the state will spend between $1.7 billion and $1.9 billion to reconstruct the bridge, projected to reopen by fall 2028. Government workers removed over 50,000 tons of debris from the waterway, which was obstructed for several months before reopening in June.
The incident has drawn considerable media attention, focusing on state Governor Wes Moore's efforts to restore shipping routes in the area.
