Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, deleted a social media post regarding the lack of assassination attempts on President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris after receiving widespread criticism. The post, made on the platform X (formerly known as Twitter), referenced an apparent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Musk’s post read, "no one is even trying to assassinate Biden/Kamala," accompanied by an emoji of a raised eyebrow.
Musk later stated that the post was intended as a joke, adding, "Turns out that jokes are WAY less funny if people don’t know the context and the delivery is plain text." The comment drew significant backlash, with "#DeportElonMusk" trending on X.
The White House condemned Musk's remarks, with Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates calling them "irresponsible" and reiterating that violence should never be encouraged or joked about. Musk previously endorsed Trump for the 2024 presidential election.
