In a jaw-dropping spectacle, Daniel Dubois knocked out Anthony Joshua to retain his IBF title, leaving boxing fans stunned. The fight took an unexpected turn in the fifth round, when Joshua appeared to hurt Dubois early on but overcommitted in his attack. That opened the door for Dubois, who countered with a perfectly timed right hand to Joshua’s temple.
Joshua, showing resilience, managed to shake off the first shot, but a second, more devastating right landed flush on his jaw, sending the former champion face down to the canvas. Although Joshua made a valiant effort to get back to his feet, it was clear the fight was over.
Promoter Frank Warren, visibly elated after the bout, spoke with DAZN, praising both fighters and reflecting on the dramatic showdown. “It was a phenomenal fight, and I always felt it would be a Hagler-Hearns type situation. AJ showed tremendous heart, but Dubois was brilliant.”
Warren emphasized that Dubois’ victory wasn’t an upset but rather the fulfillment of his potential. “He’s a young man who has overcome a lot. He hurt Usyk before, and now he has the chance to prove himself further. Next, he’s got to face Tyson Fury, but tonight was a true champion’s performance."
