Donald Trump suggests Elon Musk as future cost-cutter for U.S. government

At a rally in Kent County, Michigan, former President Donald Trump proposed Elon Musk as the nation's future "cost-cutter" should Trump return to the presidency. Trump praised Musk, the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and X (formerly Twitter), for his ability to tackle waste and reduce government spending.

“I’m going to get Elon, and he’s going to be our cost-cutter. I think he can save trillions,” Trump told the crowd on Friday. However, Trump acknowledged Musk’s busy schedule but highlighted Musk’s commitment to addressing the issue of government waste.

Trump’s remarks referenced Musk’s own comments on the state of U.S. spending, claiming that Musk had expressed concerns about the level of waste in the country. According to Trump, Musk would take on this role voluntarily, without any compensation, should Trump be re-elected.

In 2022, Musk publicly shifted his political support toward the Republican Party, citing dissatisfaction with the Democratic Party. Since then, Musk has often praised Trump on his social media platform, X.

Trump emphasized that Musk’s efforts would focus on eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse in the government, aiming to strengthen the country’s financial stability without causing harm to individuals.
