Rep. Anthony D’Esposito (R-NY) defended his hiring practices after reports surfaced that he employed two women with personal ties to him. The congressman acknowledged hiring both his ex-mistress, Devin Faas, and his fiancée's daughter to work in his district office but maintained that no ethics violations occurred.
Speaking to CNN's Manu Raju, D'Esposito stated, “Neither relationship violated any ethics.” His response came after a report from the New York Times raised concerns about potential breaches of the House Code of Official Conduct. Despite facing scrutiny, D'Esposito dismissed the report as a "hit piece" and stood firm in his claim of ethical behavior.
According to the report, Faas received payments between April and July 2023, while his fiancée's daughter worked as a special assistant. Together, the two women were paid approximately $29,000 from taxpayer funds.
D'Esposito reiterated that his personal life has never interfered with his responsibilities, emphasizing that he has always upheld high ethical standards. He expressed frustration with the accusations, stating that voters in New York’s 4th District deserve better than "gutter politics."
