The congressional task force investigating the first assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump has scheduled its initial hearing for next Thursday. The task force, consisting of seven Republican and six Democratic members, was established after the July shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania. The first hearing will focus on the "Secret Service's Reliance on State and Local Law Enforcement," according to Politico.
The task force has requested documents from the Department of Homeland Security and the Secret Service but has not yet announced any speakers for the hearing. The investigation may also expand to include a second assassination attempt that occurred in West Palm Beach, Florida, over the weekend, though a vote to broaden the panel’s powers has not yet taken place.
The task force is expected to conclude its investigation and issue a report by mid-December, ahead of the next congressional term in January.
