The Amhara region, particularly the Gondar and South Wollo zones In Ethiopia, continues to experience escalating conflict, leading to a surge in displacement and civilian deaths. Thousands of people are now seeking refuge as the situation intensifies.
On 20 September 2024, VOA reported significant delays in the delivery of food aid to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in South Wollo, with ongoing security challenges hampering relief efforts. Many displaced individuals, especially children, are suffering from malnutrition due to a critical shortage of food in the camps.
The South Wollo Disaster Prevention and Food Security Office pointed to delays in receiving federal food assistance as the root cause of the crisis, further complicating the provision of necessary aid.
In response, the National Disaster Risk Management Commission admitted that security issues and transportation shortages have contributed to moderate delays in aid distribution. However, they reassured the public that efforts are being made to resolve these challenges and deliver food to the affected regions as quickly as possible.
As the conflict in the Amhara region continues, the humanitarian situation grows increasingly dire, calling for urgent and sustained intervention.
