High Altitude Geothermal, LLC, a geothermal energy company based in Colorado, is set to receive up to $97,500 in government grants as part of its plan to hire five employees over the next four years. This initiative marks the company as the first in Moffat County and the first geothermal firm to join the Rural Jump-Start program, which aims to promote economic growth and job creation in rural areas.
Governor Jared Polis expressed support for the initiative, highlighting the importance of geothermal energy in Colorado's future. The Colorado Economic Development Commission approved High Altitude Geothermal's participation in the Moffat County RJS Zone during its recent meeting. This designation allows the company to access various incentives, including a general operating grant of up to $20,000 and $2,500 for each qualified new hire. Additionally, businesses transitioning from coal, such as those in Moffat County, can receive up to $40,000 in operating grants and $5,000 per new hire.
Eve Lieberman, Executive Director of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, praised the company’s efforts to align with the state’s goals for economic diversification and renewable energy advancement. Shannon Scott, Economic Development Manager for the City of Craig, echoed this sentiment, expressing optimism for the company’s potential impact on the local economy.
