CNN senior political commentator Scott Jennings voiced concerns about how former President Donald Trump’s "bloodbath" comment was taken out of context by Democrats during recent discussions. Jennings addressed the issue during a panel hosted by CNN's Abby Phillip, which focused on political rhetoric surrounding the 2024 election.
Trump originally referred to the possibility of an economic “bloodbath” in the automotive industry if President Joe Biden were to win the election. During a debate, Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris referenced the comment but implied it pertained to election-related violence. Phillip clarified during the discussion that Trump's comment was about job losses in the automotive sector, not violence.
Jennings, a Republican and former Bush appointee, criticized the media for allowing the comment’s misrepresentation and noted that such rhetoric is often used in political debates without correction.
