The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) is considering its next steps after securing third place in Brandenburg’s recent state election. Party leader Robert Crumbach stated that BSW is not prepared to make any immediate decisions about potential coalition talks with the Social Democratic Party (SPD). He emphasized that the party will carefully assess its options during a meeting on Wednesday.
Crumbach noted that BSW could play a crucial role in shaping the future government of the eastern state, where it may become a kingmaker. He did not rule out the possibility of a minority government, suggesting that a coalition could function with as few as 44 votes.
BSW General Secretary Stefan Roth commented on the party’s strong performance, highlighting its third-place finishes in other states like Saxony and Thuringia earlier this year. Roth described the results as a historic achievement for BSW, positioning it as the most successful party foundation in decades.
