In an escalating conflict over content moderation and freedom of expression, Brazil's Supreme Court has issued an ultimatum to Elon Musk regarding his social media platform, X.
According to a court ruling published yesterday, Musk has 24 hours to appoint a legal representative for his messaging service in Brazil. Failure to comply could result in the website being blocked in the country.
Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who issued the ruling, emphasized that under Brazilian internet law, companies that violate the country’s laws or compromise the confidentiality of private information risk having their operations temporarily suspended.
Earlier this month, X announced plans to cease operations in Brazil and lay off its employees, citing what it described as "censorship orders" from Moraes.
