Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. and his wife, La'Quetta Small, the superintendent of the city’s public schools, have been indicted on charges of child endangerment, assault, and making terroristic threats. The indictment, issued by a grand jury, follows allegations involving the couple’s teenage daughter, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
Prosecutors claim that both parents physically and emotionally mistreated their daughter, who was between 15 and 16 years old at the time of the alleged incidents, which took place in January and December 2023. On January 13, 2024, it is alleged that Mayor Small hit his daughter multiple times on the head with a broom, which reportedly caused her to lose consciousness.
The Smalls have denied the allegations. Mayor Small told the Associated Press that they look forward to telling their side of the story. Their lawyer, Ed Jacobs, stated that the couple is "totally innocent" and expects them to be "fully exonerated."
