Delhi Minister Atishi has been named the new Chief Minister of the national capital territory of India following the resignation of Arvind Kejriwal. The announcement was made by Kejriwal, leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), during a meeting with party legislators in New Delhi.
Atishi, 43, will serve as Chief Minister until the next state elections, expected in February 2024. A prominent member of the AAP, she has previously held key roles in the Delhi government, overseeing portfolios such as finance and education.
Kejriwal, who had been Delhiās chief minister since 2015, resigned after being granted bail in a corruption case. Atishi has pledged to continue his work, highlighting his leadership as influential in her political career. She referred to him as her mentor and committed to maintaining the party's focus leading into the upcoming elections.
