Antony Blinken, born on April 16, 1962, in New York City, is an American diplomat and politician. He currently serves as the 71st United States Secretary of State, a position he assumed in January 2021 under President Joe Biden's administration. Blinken's early education took place in Paris, where he attended École Jeannine Manuel. He later returned to the United States, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University in 1984 and a Juris Doctor from Columbia Law School in 1988.

Blinken's career in government began in the late 1980s, working as a special assistant to the Assistant Secretary of State for European and Canadian Affairs. During the Clinton administration, he served on the National Security Council staff and was a speechwriter for President Bill Clinton. From 2009 to 2013, Blinken was Deputy Assistant to the President and National Security Advisor to then-Vice President Joe Biden, followed by a role as Deputy National Security Advisor from 2013 to 2015. He was appointed Deputy Secretary of State from 2015 to 2017 during the Obama administration.

As Secretary of State, Blinken has been involved in numerous key foreign policy initiatives, including managing U.S. relations with China, addressing the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and coordinating the U.S. response to global security challenges. His tenure has also been marked by efforts to restore alliances strained under previous administrations and reinvigorate multilateral diplomacy.

Blinken has emphasized a return to a rules-based international order, tackling issues such as climate change, cybersecurity, and human rights. He has been vocal about defending democratic values and addressing challenges posed by authoritarian governments. His leadership also included overseeing the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan in 2021 and navigating the subsequent crisis.

Beyond his government work, Blinken co-founded the political strategy firm WestExec Advisors and served as a senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. He also has a background in the arts, being an amateur guitarist who has released original music.
